What is a common way to handle tantrums?

Each parent has a different method to handle these tantrums. In these types of situations, most of the parents feel so tempted to resolve their issues as they are “incapable” to see the pain of their child. Without even realizing they are harming their children’s growth. Most of the time these children grow up with low emotional resilience and would look for other shoulders to cry on or even learn to blame the problem on someone else.

After reading Jacqueline Sperling, Ph.D. powerful thoughts; expressing my views, “How do parents handle their own emotions when their children are throwing tantrums?”

Is it even possible to manage emotions both ways?

Try and hold a mirror for your child, show their image by validating emotions (empathy) behind their tantrums. The language of empathy isn’t natural to us, but just like other languages, you can have mastery over it. Unfortunately, most of us grow without getting an acknowledgment of our feelings; from our caretakers, friends, colleagues, bosses, or even partners. But we are lucky to be on the journey of parenthood; it gives us the opportunity to overcome our childhood pains through our children’s tantrums. Those unpleasant moments (tantrums), if captured mindfully, can be a ladder for our success. That’s the time patience and tolerance creep in. At the same time, your child will feel connected and safe around you.

It’s like- “killing two birds with one stone!”

Each parent wants their offspring to be better (in all aspects) than their generation. Most of the parents willingly learn new methods and try to break these traditional ways of handling tantrums. With these conscious efforts, it is possible we create our emotionally stronger society. Hence, parenting is considered to be the most sacred stage in the cycle of life.
